Dear H.B,

As Vincent said, the FE models seems more appropriate for your application having in mind 

that you can incorporate physical properties of the tissues in the registration process which 

is nice. However, one drawback is that you have to provide properties like Young's modulus,

Poisson's ratio and density of the tissues which sometimes are not so easy to obtain. In 

that case you can either approximate these properties (error-prone and dangerous) or just 

use some other model like B-Spline or Thin-Plate Spline deformable model.
