[Insight-users] Thin-Plate-Splines

Hello everybody,

I'm using thin-plate splines for landmark based registration of 2D
images.
In literature I only found that the kernel of thin-plate splines in 2D
is defined as | r |^2 log | r |,
like the kernel in itk::ThinPlateR2LogRSplineKernelTransform.

But I also tried the itk::ThinPlateSplineKernelTransform, which has a
kernel of | r |
what is the definition of thin-plate-splines in 3D.
But the results are much better!

How is that possible?
Does anyone have this experience as well?
And am I still using thin-plate-splines if I'm using the 3D kernel in
2D? :-)

I would appreciate any comment on it!

Best regards,
Marta
