A general comment on that for Christian: Please note that ITK is an image PROCESSING toolkit which does not deal with visualization tasks of the processing results. 

Although ITK provides a bunch of interfaces to interact with GUI and visualization toolkits (some of these were already mentioned by Martin and Luis), it does not (besides the samples in InsightApplications) provide a direct way to display processing results.

Oh, and there's also the option to use

g) MITK - Medical interaction toolkit

for visualization of your results and for application building. :)
