[Insight-users] Computing time with normalized MI

Hi, every one!
 
When using Normalized MI metric, which parameter is the most important one that will influence the computing time? 
I watched the observer, I found out that the computing speed is not the same during every pyramid level.(it became very very slow at the third level). What caused this?
 
I can not find relative information in Users guide. Can any body help?
