Also, the OnePlusOneEvolutionaryOptimizer (
http://itk.org/Insight/Doxygen/html/
classitk_1_1OnePlusOneEvolutionaryOptimizer.html ) is an optimizer with
a simulated annealing flavor. It takes random steps within a certain
radius in parameter space, and adjusts that radius (anisotropically) to
selectively favor directions which have produced good results in the
past. With each "good" step, the radius grows, and with each "bad" step
it shrinks (akin to the "cooling" that you do toward the end of a
simulated annealing run).
