Hi Deliang,
Are you interested in mapping the axis of a curvilinear
structure into a straight line ?
or in unwrapping the surface of the tube into a flat
strip ?
The first one may be easier than the second one.
How high can be there curvature of the tubular shape
axis ? Is it enough for folding the tube over itself ?
like for creating loops ?
If the tube is representing a vascular structure, it
may not be too difficult to map it to a straight line.
If the tube is a convolved structure such as the intestine,
then a more carefule mapping may be necessary.
In the case of vascular structures you can probably do
this by using the BSpline classes in ITK in order to
interpolate between Frenet reference frames placed at
regular spacing along the tubular structure.
Regards,
Luis
