You should be able to adjust the brightness and contrast of an image using

itkShiftScaleImageFilter, or
itkRescaleIntensityImageFilter

You might also want to look at itkSigmoidImageFilter

i'm writing a program that need to do some manipulations in images and
i'm using itk
but i didn't find a way to change the brightness/contrast/gamma of the
image... 
i really think that such simple functions are implemented in itk, but i
can't find them

can any of you could tell me what i have to do?
