Hi Nick,
Please read the Section on the Multi-Modality
registration of the ITK Software Guide
http://www.itk.org/ItkSoftwareGuide.pdf
Section 8.4, pdf-page 255 to 263.
This section explains the need and rationale for
normalizing the images before passing them as
input to the Viola Wells Metric computation.
You should also look at the associated example
code in:
Insight/Examples/Registration/
ImageRegistration2.cxx
In principle you could also find the appropriate
value of standard deviation for your images, instead
of normalizing them. Both methods should work.
You could use the Statistics image filter to help you
figure out from your images an appropriate value for
the standard deviation of the metric.
