Hi Ting,

Yeap, something is broken in this filter, I'll look in to it.

If you are in a hurry for using a gradient filter you may 
want to try some of the other gradient filters available in ITK.

There is a special page for them in the Doxygen documentation:

The reason for having so many gradient filters is that there
are many trade offs in how you can compute a gradient and it
is almost impossible to satisfy all the needs with a single 
filter.
