Hi Marius,

I allocated an itkArray<unsigned char> of size 6. I then proceeded to call fill(0) on it a 2^30 times. Here are the results on Linux and Windows:

Windows 7 no if statement        : 5.39820 seconds
Windows 7 if statement             : 5.41447 seconds

Kubuntu 13.04 no if statement   : 4.77541 seconds
Kubuntu 13.04 if statement        : 4.77806 seconds
Hopefully, this will satisfy you of the performance of the function in question.
