Brad,

I'm trying to find this limitation in the code, and can't
identify where in the ImageIO we are limiting the read
and write operations to 1 or 3 components.

We certainly can do 2D images with deformation
fields, so 2 components is managed correctly.

We also read and write symmetric tensors in 3D by
using a pixels of 6 components.


Are you referring only to JPEG ?
