Hi Luke,

With regards to item 3, could you break out that part and attach it to
the bug report?  We still have to deal with the issue of backwards
compatibility.  Hopefully we can do something to change the current
method, because it cannot be implemented correctly with the current
return type.

I'd volunteer to help review other parts of the patch as I'm familiar
with the topic.
