The documentation says:
* \par Inputs and Outputs
* The input to this filter should be a scalar, real-valued Itk image
of
* arbitrary dimension. The output should also be a scalar, real-
value Itk
* image of the same dimensionality.
and the ITK concept checking can enforce this too. This requirement is
for the precession needed to perform the smoothing and edge detection.
The CastImageFilter should be able to take care of any conversion need.
This class should be able to take double too.
