Having talked with the boost folks some, I am getting a different feel 
for boost.   Some boost libraries can support more compilers than 
others. It is up to the maintainer of a particular library to choose 
which compilers they will support.   So, it might be worth taking a look 
at the boost thread stuff and see if it supports the compilers we need 
or not.
