So... Two questions in the manner of a quick survey: What platforms have
stdint.h? What platforms (amongst the ITK-supported platforms) do NOT?
Irix 6.5 has stdint.h but throws an error if you don't have __c99 defined
MACOSX 10.4.10 has stdint.h which apparently can be used anywhere
Linux (RHEL) has stdint.h which can be used anywhere.
Don't have access to Windows or Solaris machines right now, can someone
check?
Is it really the case that structure alignment is so undependable that it's
necessary to read and write headers a field at a time?
