Here's a new place for ITK to have an influence. This is
perhaps one of the most important areas within the realm
of Radiology and digital technologies for Insight to apply
some real leverage.

Comments?

Dear Colleague,

At its September meeting in Munich, the DICOM Standards Committee
approved a new work item for defining a standard Application
Programming Interface (API) for Post Processing Software (PPSW)
using DICOM semantics. For additional information, see:
	*	WG-10_Request_PPSW_v2.doc and
	*	The white paper on DICOM_Plug-ins_06.doc
which may be found in the "Minutes" folder of the DICOM meeting at:

<http://medical.nema.org/Dicom/minutes/Committee/2004/2004-09-03/Approved_Work_Items/>

Initially this work item was assigned to WG-06, which planned to
establish an ad hoc sub-group to complete the necessary tasks.
However, due to the nature of the work item, the DICOM Standards
Committee may decide to convert this ad hoc sub-group to a full
working group.

I am writing to invite you to an organizational meeting that will be
held on November 5, 2004 at NEMA Headquarters in Rosslyn, VA (near
Washington, DC) to begin this work. Topics for that meeting include:

1 - Nominating a chair or co-chairs,

2 - Reviewing the work item and white paper,

3 - Creating a scope and strategic statement for the group
     (needed if the ad hoc group is to become a full working group),

4 - Outlining the work, assigning tasks and setting some milestones,

5 - Planning a meeting schedule for the coming year, and, if time
     permits,

6 - Beginning discussions on specific topics.

If you are interested in this topic and plan to attend this initial
meeting, please contact the secretary, How_Clark at nema.org.

If you are interested in this topic but cannot attend this initial
meeting, please contact the secretary How_Clark at nema.org.

If you know of someone, even those outside of the normal DICOM
Community, who might be interested in contributing to this work,
please forward this e-mail to them, invite them to the meeting, and
urge them to contact the secretary. An e-mail distribution list
will be created that includes contact information for all who respond.

We're looking forward to an interesting and lively discussion.
