Dear Colleague:

The MMVR11 Organizing Committee and Aligned Management Associates,
Inc. are pleased to announce the eleventh annual Medicine Meets
Virtual Reality conference and the Call for Papers to researchers in
the field. We invite those who are working to advance the role of
interactive electronic technologies in clinical care and medical
education to submit an abstract of their research.

The essential MMVR curriculum continues into 2003:

- Simulation
- Imaging
- Visualization
- Modeling
- Robotics
- Haptics
- Sensors
- Displays/projection

With their related medical applications:

- Diagnostic tools and methods
- Information-guided therapies and surgery
- Education, procedural training and assessment
- Intelligence networks and telemedicine

The abstract submission deadline is July 15, 2002.

This year's special theme is "NextMed: Health Horizon". As the
Information Age matures, MMVR expands its purpose to support the
integration of information technology with biological and physical
sciences for a future of improved health care. This expanded purpose
permits the MMVR community to fuse its data-focused innovation with
areas such as:

- micro- and nanotechnology for sensors and robotics
- optical technology for tissue imaging and biopsy
- biomaterials for tissue repair and replacement
- genomic, proteomic, and pharmacological imaging
- neuro-silicon interfaces
- non-invasive surgery

Submissions in these areas will receive special consideration.

PLEASE NOTE: Abstract submission and presenter guidelines, as well as
the on-line abstract submission form, are at the conference web site:
http://www.nextmed.com/mmvr_virtual_reality.html .

In addition to oral and poster presentations, the conference will include:

- Presentation of the ninth annual Satava Award. We are pleased to
announce that Mentice Medical Simulation (http://www.mentice.com) is
sponsoring a cash prize of $2500 for the 2003 recipient.

- The fourth annual stereoscopy session, featuring novel 3D medical images

- Special panel discussions and presentations

As MMVR enters its second decade, the Organizing Committee and
Aligned Management Associates, Inc. look forward to creating an
educational forum that promotes innovation in clinical care and
medical education. Please feel free to contact me with any questions
about participation.

With best regards,

James D. Westwood
