Hi everyone:
This is just FYI and provides information about the review of the proposal
we submitted in May for continued development of IGSTK. The major point to
note is that we can submit up to three pages of supplemental information by
September 1st. This is true of most NIH grant applications and is generally
a good thing to do. Possible material to include here is:
1) abstracts of MICCAI papers
2) information on the book
3) information on any further releases of the toolkit
So this gives us further motivation to finish the book and release the
toolkit by the end of August. I will mention this again at the tcon on
Thursday (which I will actually participate in since I am back from my two
week trip to Japan)
Kevin

Subject: ZRG1 BST-D(51): Important NIH grant review information
DEAR DR. CLEARY:
This is to provide information about the review of your NIH application,
entitled "Continued Development for The Image-guided Surgical Toolkit
Project (IGSTK)", by the ZRG1 BST-D 51 study section, "Software Development
and Maintenance".
There are two scientific review administrators for this panel, and either of
us may serve as your primary point of contact prior to review. You may
contact us both by email by sending to csrsoftware_review at csr.nih.gov .
After the review is complete, your primary NIH contact will be your Program
Director at the particular institute considering your application. At that
time, please direct questions about scores and summary statements to your
Program Director. If you do not have the contact information for your
Program Director, it can be found by looking at your grant record in the NIH
eRA Commons.
The following information is pertinent to the review of your application:
* Supplementary material receipt date: Sept. 1, 2006 by 3:00 PM
Eastern time. (please read below before submitting)
* Review meeting date: Sept. 17-18, 2006
* Scores on eRA Commons by: Sept. 21, 2006
* Summary statement available for download by: Oct. 19, 2006
* Institute Council Meeting dates (funding decisions): January 2007
Principal Investigators should establish accounts on the NIH eRA Commons to
obtain important information about their applications (including scores and
summary statements). The web site is:
http://commons.era.nih.gov <http://commons.era.nih.gov/>
To get an account, please contact the research administration office at your
institution as directed on the Commons web page. If you are a small
business, there are instructions on how to contact Commons to set your
institution up on the system if it is not on already.
Supplementary Materials/Updates:
You are not required to submit update material and reviewers are not
required to consider it. However, we will accept some such material for late
breaking or missing information. You may submit no more than three pages
(same font and margin requirements as for your grant application), and they
must be emailed directly to csrsoftware_review at csr.nih.gov in pdf format.
You may also submit additional publications that have been accepted up to
the total limit of 10 with your R01 application. These should also be sent
electronically. All supplementary material must be received by the deadline
above. Typically, less than 1/4 of applicants submit such material.
Human Subjects / Vertebrate animals:
It is your responsibility to provide information regarding the protection of
human subjects (along with inclusion of women, minorities and children) and
vertebrate animals in the appropriate sections of your application, and the
peer reviewers will judge this as part of their merit evaluation. If no
human subjects or animals are used, you state this in the corresponding
section. If your research uses only data from human subjects, that data
cannot be identified or linked to any individual, and none of the
investigators or collaborators have access to the raw, identifiable data,
then this is not considered human subjects research. However, if this is
not the case and your research does use human subjects, it is your
responsibility to make sure that the required material on protection from
risks, inclusion of women, minority, and children, or justification for
exemption from human subject protection, is included in your application. If
it is not, the review panel may find that this material was inadequately
addressed. You may submit this as part of your supplementary material. If
you have any questions, please contact one of us.
Meeting Roster:
The final membership roster for this meeting will be available on the Center
for Scientific Review (CSR) website at approximately 30 days before the
review meeting. The roster varies from meeting to meeting. Please check
here and scroll down to find ZRG1 BST-D 51:
http://www.csr.nih.gov/Roster_proto/allother_sep.asp
If you have any questions, concerns or comments about the review of your
application or the NIH peer review process in general, please feel free to
contact us. We are here to ensure that your application is presented in the
best possible light within the bounds of fairness.
Best regards,
