[ITK] [ITK-users] Write to file

Dear ITK community,

is there a possibility to write the output of a shape function to a file?
More precisely, if I take for example the geodesic segmentation filter, this
inputs the shape to the algorithm:
geodesicActiveContour->SetShapeFunction( shape );
However, I now want this "shape" object saved to a file for a later use, and
not calculated on the fly each time running the algorithm.
An imagefilewriter does not seem to do the job...
