I would look at the test parameter used for this example:

https://github.com/SimpleITK/SimpleITK/blob/master/Examples/Java/CMakeLists.txt#L24

The third parameter is a transform and not an image format. Supported extensions include “txt”, “hdf5” and I believe “mat”.

Please try to reproduce the test before moving on.
