It might be. In the meanwhile, I ran one of the affected applications
under Valgrind memcheck and helgrind, but found nothing relevant. Same
with the Clang sanitizers, although that was with a newer version of ITK
and OTB, because of build system troubles.
 
At least two of three instances I'm aware of involved (different
implementations of) resampling filters.
 
I'll add that the machine in cause has ECC ram and no errors were
reported by the system.
