Try it:

ExternalProject_Add(
  ...
  SOURCE_DIR ${CMAKE_CURRENT_BINARY_DIR}/source
  ...
  CONFIGURE_COMMAND ${CMAKE_COMMAND} [additional args...] ${CMAKE_CURRENT_BINARY_DIR}/source/build/cmake
  ...)
