We must be using different Google then.

There are
Visual Studio .NET 2002
Visual Studio .NET 2003
and
Visual Studio 2005
but not Visual Studio .NET 2005

Microsoft officially dropped the.NET with Visual Studio 2005.

I do. Users who get confused, they also care, but perhaps indirectly.
Imprecise and misinforming documentation is a mess and there is no 
"after all" at all.

What to attach any philosophy to misuse of names for?

It is simpler to fix it than debating if it's pointless or not.
