GitHub's API has support for commenting on an individual commit , so that's probably the right place for CDash to include a link back to itself. Thanks for your encouraging reply, Zack! Could CTEST_CHANGE_ID be 'overloaded' for this purpose? If CTEST_CHANGE_ID is a decimal number, it should still be interpreted as a pull request number. Otherwise, if it looks like "SHA:904ee80144c5341ecb3a9285ea6a75bbef447bcd" (for example), it must be the SHA of a commit. So in general, if CTEST_CHANGE_ID starts with the prefix "SHA:", add a CDash link to the commit at the GitHub page. Would that be a proper interface to you? I have noticed that the Update column for VTK and CMake dashboards now report an abbreviated value of a git commit hash. See, for example, the main page of the CMake dashboard, and look at the Update column: https://open.cdash.org/index.php?project=CMake I would assume that if you are using latest releases of CDash and CMake/CTest that it is fairly simple to have the git hash of the corresponding source tree sent up. Hopefully somebody who knows what the mechanism is can reply and give a hint, but if not, I bet it's not too difficult to figure it out based on analysis of the source code of CDash and CMake.CTest. I see the "Update" column at https://my.cdash.org/index.php?project=SuperElastix has a subheader below "Update", saying "Files". Is that where the commit SHA should appear? On https://open.cdash.org/index.php?project=CMake the subheader of the "Update" column says "Revision", and it does actually show shortened commit SHA hashes, as David Cole pointed out. Or do you mean that my.cdash.org just does not support displaying the commit SHA hash yet? If so, can you maybe give some rough indication when it does? I did some analysis of the source code, but found it not so easy. Searching through CTest at https://github.com/Kitware/CMake.git it seemed to me that I should either add command-line argument "--overwrite ChangeId=" or set(CTEST_CHANGE_ID ). In either way, the commit SHA hash should appear as ChangeId attribute of the Site tag, in the XML files in the Testing subdirectory (Build.xml, Configure.xml, etc.), right? But will it then be visible somewhere at our dashboard at my.cdash.org? In testSummary.html I see build.update.revision, and build.update.revisionurl, at https://github.com/Kitware/CDash/blob/v2.4.0/public/views/testSummary.html Does this mean that we could pass the GitHub URL of the commit to CDash, so that it would be placed onto the Test Summary? If so, can you please tell us how to pass this information to CDash? We have a couple features left to port before we can upgrade my.cdash.org. David Cole wrote on Monday Jan 29, 2018: > Hopefully somebody who knows what the mechanism is can reply and > give a hint, but if not, I bet it's not too difficult to figure > it out based on analysis of the source code of CDash and > CMake.CTest. David Cole wrote on Monday Jan 29, 2018: > Hopefully somebody who knows what the mechanism is can reply and > give a hint, but if not, I bet it's not too difficult to figure > it out based on analysis of the source code of CDash and > CMake.CTest.
