Summary0008730: CDash Dev: Not sending out email notifications for failed configure?
Description
I am looking over the CDash results from last night and the emails
sent out and I don't think that CDash is sending out email
notifications when a configure fails. For example, the Trilinos
package Phalanx always fails to configure on the machine
s909348.sandia.gov because Boost is not installed. We will fix this
trivially but I let these things fail for now because they help us in
testing.

The problem is that while two configures fail for Phalanx as shown at:

  http://trilinos-dev.sandia.gov/cdash/index.php?project=Trilinos&date=2009-03-13&subproject=Phalanx#Nightly [^]

we don't see email notifications going out for Phalanx.

One if these configure errors is for the build:

  http://trilinos-dev.sandia.gov/cdash/buildSummary.php?buildid=188 [^]

If you look at the log at:

  http://trilinos-dev.sandia.gov/cdash/backup/cdash.log [^]

you don't find any entry for buildid=188.

Is CDash not sending out emails for configure failures on purpose or
is this something that it is supposed to do?

It is very important that we get email notifications when a subproject
(Trilinos package) fails to configure.

Hello guys,

I am noticing that this morning that we are now getting duplicate configure error notification emails. For example, I got:

I looked at one of these builds, buildid=1749, and I looked at:

    http://trilinos-dev.sandia.gov/cdash/backup/cdash.log [^]

and I see:

[2009-03-18T02:24:12] (sendemail Trilinos): Buildid 1749
[2009-03-18T02:24:13] (sendemail Trilinos): email sent to: rabartl@sandia.gov, phalanx-regression@software.sandia.gov

This clearly shows that error notification emails are getting sent out twice for buildid=1749 which explains the duplicate emails.

What changed before this morning is that now 'update' is getting passed into CTEST_SUBMIT(...) were before it was not. I am guessing that this is related to the problem where an email is getting triggered by the submission of the Update.xml file?

I think that it is important that we only send one email for the same failure. To do otherwise is going to confuse people and is just unnecessary.
