I could not observe this behavior on UNIXes or Windoze No Title. May it be due to the OS ? BTW what C compiler are You using ? Due to past experience I am almost sure that the STL of Mickysoft VC has in fact a memory leak (besides other serious flaws). Although I am perfectly aware that this might not be not what You are looking for: try a different compiler and libs (e. g. Cygwin) to exclude the build environment as a cause of the symptoms You are experiencing.
