Another nail in SGI's coffin, I'm afraid. And, I'm sure Microsoft will generate it's usual share of animosity with this.
Not sure I am ready to believe that, with SGI's low end machines
going the Linux way and using NVidia chipsets
in the future for graphics - this looks quite impressive performance
wise. In my opinion, it was a mistake
to compete with other Intel based machines in the first place
under Windows. In fact, the SGI rep at the Volumizer symposium at
Vis. 99 agreed with this. SGI was trying to do something in which
it had no idea.
We have talked about adding a Direct3D renderer, it doesn't appear horribly hard to do. But this is definitely a topic that needs discussion.
