Object ordering (the order in which the actors were added to the renderer) determines the outcome of a translucently renderered object. With multiple contours contained in the same actor, I'm not sure what you can do. If you use multiple actors (1 per contour), then you can add actors from the inside out and the image should look much better. Your other option is to export the image to RIB format and let RenderMan or BMRT do its magic. They will look beautiful, then.
