Thanks for all the feedback, guys! Let me clarify a point: I'm not a Bill Gates fan myself. I'd love to base my application solely on open source tools, and VTK seems to be a great thing. Eventually, however, I will have to sell it to clients who wouldn't like an application which doesn't conform to the standards laid down by Microsoft.
