I'm pretty sure CMake is not in the Mac App Store.  As you're new to Mac, perhaps you're not aware that the store is thankfully not mandatory like it is with iOS?

Once you update your CMake, I'd start by doing a simple build of VTK, without Java wrappings, to see if at least that works.
