[vtkusers] VTK on Mac OSX

Dear VTK experts,

I have a quick question regarding using VTK on Mac OSX. I just started porting our app which uses VTK/Java wrapping and works on Windows (VTK version 5.0.3 just in case) on to Mac OSX and I'm running into the problem described on this thread:
http://www.vtk.org/pipermail/vtkusers/2005-March/078945.html long time ago (not sure which vtkPanel, vtkCanvas are referred to on this thread..) Has this issue been resolved?

I'd really appreciate any pointers to a simple working example that demonstrate using vtkPanel inside a Swing component that runs on Mac.
