[vtkusers] any help to understand the normalized shape index definition?

Dear all,

Does anyone have some knowledge about the meaning of the normalized shape
index, which can be computed thanks to the class:
http://www.vtk.org/doc/nightly/html/classvtkMassProperties.html
using  vtkMassProperties::GetNormalizedShapeIndex (  )

I would like to know if there is some documentation on this function, maybe
a little bit more detailed than the doxygen one.
