Would it work if you reduced the size of the image with  vtkImageResample ,
then resample the image again back to the original  size?

Thank you, but talk of reducing the number of pixels without changing the
picture size. The vtkImageResample change the spacing. Since no change?

whart do you understand as "image quality" ?

the amount of noise? sharpness of boundaries?

vtkImageNoiseSource might help to add artificial noise.
