Hi Folks-

There will be a VTK BOF (birds-of-a-feather) informal meeting on Thursday,
July 27 at Siggraph 2000. (This year held in New Orleans - nice and cool in
July :-) The meeting will be held in the Wyndham Riverfront hotel, in the
Rex room. Time is 6:00-7:30pm. Bill Lorensen, Bill Hoffman, Jim Miller,
myself, and hopefully some other VTK developers will be there as well.
We'll talk about future work and get your ideas about how to improve the
system. We'd love to meet you and get your input.

Earlier on the same day a Siggraph panel will take place with Bill Lorensen
as the moderator. The title of the panel is "How Free Is Free Software."
Panel members include Micheal Tiemens-chief technology officer at Red Hat
(and founder of Cygnus Solutions), Larry Gritz-BMRT/Renderman guru from
Pixar, Bill Hibbard at U. of Wisconsin author of Vis5D, and Will Schroeder,
developer of VTK. I think this will be the best panel of the show...

For those that can't get enough of open-source, there will be another BOF
on Wednesday evening 6:00-7:30pm. This one is the Insight Segmentation and
Registration Toolkit, currently under sponsorship by the US National
Library of Medicine (NLM) at the National Institute of Health (NIH). The
project leader is Terry Yoo of NLM. This open-source toolkit is being
architected by the VTK team (at Kitware and GE CRD), with algorithmic saavy
provided by U. of North Carolina, U. of Tennessee, UPenn, Columbia, Brigham
& Women's Hospital, and MathSoft. Look in the Siggraph material for location.

Hope to see you at Siggraph,
Will
