MacOs platform and vtk

I'm in the midst of a Ph.D. in medical imagery and just discovered 
the existence of vtk.

My first question is : Why isn't vtk available on the Macintosh 
platform?  Is there a technical reason or is it a human reason 
(nobody tried it!)?

The second one is : Is there an archive of this mailing list?
