search of various other sites on the web and I now have a list of about 700
named colours after eliminating redundancies. This includes gray 0 to gray 100
along with (grey 0 to grey 100) [this accounts for 200 “colors”]. Eliminating
redundancies was a little difficult because the same colour often had different
names. I also got rid of capitalization and replaced underscores by
spaces so “AliceBlue”, “aliceblue”, “alice_blue”
all became “<st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">alice</st1:place></st1:City>
blue”. However for some reason ”<st1:country-region w:st="on"><st1:place
w:st="on">peru</st1:place></st1:country-region>” didn’t get into
my list :-). Interestingly all the published colour names seem to have a
common origin in that file called “rgb.txt” – people have
just added names or changed case.<o:p></o:p></span></font></p>

as a base set of "pre-defined" colors. Alternatively, perhaps there's
some other already defined standard that might be more appropriate in VTK's
case. Remarkably, the "named colors" found in Microsoft's .NET
framework System.Drawing.Colors, the KnownColor enumeration, appear to be
derived largely from the SVG named colors... Or perhaps it's just coincidence
that the lists both begin with AliceBlue, AntiqueWhite, Aqua and Aquamarine...
