<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-left:.5in">Technically it is because VTK treats them differently than other arrays, and because for some data types (image data and rectilinear grid) you can't modify them without altering the data type and potentially blowing
up memory consumption in the process.<o:p></o:p></p>
