Paul,<br>
<br>
My fault for not being more specific. I am using an intel mac
(10.4.8), using a bash shell and the computer is local.<br>
<br>
It looks like i hadnt set my DISPLAY env. variable. When i typed in <br>
<br>
<i> echo $DISPLAY</i><br>
<br>
i was given an empty line (guessing that this wasnt set already). I
went ahead an then set the variable to the local dispaly<br>
<i> <br>
export DISPLAY=:0.0<br>
<br>
</i>Then, i tried again to launch paraview. This time, i was greeted
with a new error message.<br>
<br>
<i>Paraview error: InitializeTcl failed<br>
Tk_Init error: this isn't a Tk applicationcouldn't connect to
display ":0.0"<br>
<br>
</i>(i left <i>applicationcouldn't </i>as one word, since this is how
the error was displayed). <br>
<br>
More info (compiled from previous posts). I have tried running
paraview (2.6) from the precompiled binary. I get the same message. I
have also tried running paraview (2.6) on a powerpc (using the powerpc
precompiled binary). Again, same error messages.<br>
<br>
Any more ideas? <br>

type="cite">O.K. I did not know if you had truncated the error
message or not. Sometimes I do that to make it easier to read. So
let's try the simple thing first: Have you set your DISPLAY environment
variable? Making the assumption that you are new to Linux, try the
following two commands. The first prints out the value of the DISPLAY
environment variable. The second sets the DISPLAY environment variable
to the local display. <br>
<br>
<span style="font-style: italic;">echo $DISPLAY<br>
</span><span style="font-style: italic;"><span
style="font-style: italic;"> export DISPLAY=:0.0<br>
</span></span><br>
Depending on the computer you are using (I assumed it was Linux), what
shell you are using (I assumed sh or bash), and whether or not the
computer is local or remote, it may or may not work. Let me know the
whether my assumptions were correct or not and I can help you more.

to all, <br>
<br>
hi. im trying to run ParaView 2.6 on an intel mac pro running 10.4.
im VERY new to a unix environment, so please bear with me. <br>
<br>
after downloading the paraview 2.6 intel precompiled binaries, i
attempt to launch paraview from the console (using ./paraview in the
/bin directory). <br>
<br>
i immediately get this message: <br>
<br>
ParaView error: InitializeTcl failed <br>
TK_Init error: no display name and no $DISPLAY environment variable <br>
<br>
i have tried running paraview on a powerpc g4 and i got the exact same
error message, so im pretty sure its something really stupid that im
messing up. <br>
<br>
any suggestions??? <br>
<br>
thanks, <br>
jared <br>
