<div>Use case: in our custom reader it is possible to select a level-of-detail when visualizing data. By default (in the SM.xml) it is set to a value that will be useful for most users, but occasionally it would be nice to preserve the value between
 sessions (e.g. if a user is looking at many different files and is always selecting a very low level). Thus it would be nice to preserve some values while it does not make sense for others, and it would be nice to be able to enable/disable this behavior.</div>
