As Utkarsh mentioned, having HDF5 included in the source simplifies things for anyone building ParaView. If John spends 120 minutes updating HDF5 in ParaView and I and everyone else spends 0 minutes setting it up to build, that sounds like a good deal to me :-)<BR>

One of the reasons why it was included in the first place, I believe,<BR>
is to make it easier for developers/users. Once you download the<BR>
ParaView source, you have everything (almost) that you need to build<BR>

just making it a git sub-project.<BR>
