The thumbnailcreator example is a good one of how we do it; we use a subdirectory of /data, and then make sure we clean up any temporary files after we are done. As long as the server has appropriate permissions to write into the subdirectory, that should work fine.

My module needs to create some temporary files for the user. What's the best way to do this? What's the best place to store them?
I see midas/data/ and I'm looking at the thumbnailcreator module for an example. Anything else I should be aware?
