(apologies for cross postings)

Dear all,

The IMT Institute for Advanced Studies Lucca ( <http://www.imtlucca.it>
www.imtlucca.it) is currently recruiting for two post-doctoral fellow
positions:

Post-Doctoral Fellow in Computer Vision and Machine Learning

Funding has been received from the EU to investigate the formulation of
(active and semi-supervised) learning problems for object segmentation and
detection, where variants of the object appear many times (often occluded
and under affine transformations) in the scene. These problems are commonly
encountered in cell characterization and phenotyping, plant phenotyping, and
nano-particle characterization.

Candidates should have a PhD in computer vision, machine learning, signal
processing, image analysis or related areas. A good record of international
publications demonstrating prior experience is required. The candidate
should have good programming skills, a strong mathematical background, and
an interest in bridging the gap to the biological/natural sciences.

Post-Doctoral Fellow in Medical Image Analysis

Funding has been obtained from the National Institutes of Health (USA) to
investigate new non-invasive techniques of cardiovascular imaging with MRI
together with partners from Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, University of
California Los Angeles (California, USA), and Siemens. Particular interest
is in unsupervised methods of analyzing such datasets to characterize
cardiac disease, based on sparse space-time decompositions. Similar problems
are encountered in functional MRI of the brain.

Candidates should have a PhD in computer vision, medical image analysis,
machine learning, signal processing, or related areas. Prior experience in
cardiac/brain registration and segmentation will be considered a plus. A
good record of international publications demonstrating prior experience is
required. The candidate should have good programming skills, a strong
mathematical background, and an interest in bridging the gap to the
medical/biological/natural sciences

Both candidates will join a rapidly growing and interdisciplinary group -
PRIAn - Pattern Recognition and Image Analysis Unit (
<http://prian.imtlucca.it/> http://prian.imtlucca.it/) - within IMT Lucca
that collaborates with a variety of laboratories across the world to
investigate new approaches for image analysis (segmentation, detection,
tracking) and the discovery of patterns in multidimensional datasets arising
in imaging problems in natural and life sciences.

More information regarding the position, as well as the online application
form, can be found here:

Informal inquiries regarding the position can be addressed to Prof. Sotirios
Tsaftaris, s.tsaftaris at imtlucca.it <mailto:s.tsaftaris at imtlucca.it> .

The deadline for applications is February 14th 2014, 12:00 pm (midday).

IMT Lucca (http://www.imtlucca.it) is a research university within the
