David,

  The headers that you are writing out are likely Nifty images, rather than Analyze images.  I think the default search order for writing something ending with ".hdr" hits Nifty first.  The best thing to do is explicitly specify Analyze images.

If you search the archives for "348 352" you will see other posts about this.  I thenk it has to do with building as 32 vs 64 bit.
