[Insight-users] Compression of Volumetric Data using JPEG2000

Hi,

I have some volumetric data in raw format that i would like to compress using the JPEG2000 standard. Compression is needed only to transport the images over a slow wan network i.e. i want to compress an image or image series, transport it and then uncompress it to its original format. Simple zip or rar compression has about a 50% gain but i am hoping that with JPEG2000, it will be around 70%.

Is there a direct way to do this in ITK? The only way i could find was to write the data as compressed dicom using GDCMImageIO. The problem with GDCMImageIO is that when the input is a dicom series or image, the output is correct but when the input is raw volumetric data, the GDCMImageIO output is garbage and in fact the program crashes.

Any help or pointers or notes from prior experience with this kind of a task would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Invisible Human
