Open letter to the Workshop authors...

Thank you again for your submission to the Open-source and Open-data 
Workshop for MICCAI!

The final decision on the papers submitted to the workshop is going to 
have to be delayed one week, until Sept 12th.  We regret this delay, but 
we have received an drastically insufficient reviewer response and are 
working urgently to get the proper reviews that your papers deserve.

These are definitely some of the highest caliber papers that this 
workshop has received in its three-year history.   Congratulations!   It 
is outstanding work.  This delay is very unfortunate.

This is an open review process, the purpose of the review is not to 
judge the quality of the paper with the attitude of accepting it or 
rejecting it. Instead, the position of the reviewer should be to help 
the authors clarify points that are not already clear, with the end goal 
of serving the community by helping readers get maximal benefit from the 
paper's content. Reviews are intended to be honest requests for 
additional information and/or attempts to provide the authors with 
background information that would make the publication more useful to 
the community.   The reviews effectively become authored publications as 
well as conversations between the community and the researchers.   The 
Workshop benefits from this openness because it allows those 
conversations to move from the web to face-to-face communications.  The 
exchanges can be very lively at the Workshop.

We look forward to your continued participation in the reviews and 
presentations at the Workshop.   People who took advantage of the 
extended deadline, please honor the agreement to provide reviews.   All 
others are encouraged to submit reviews and promote the process of 
open-science as well.
