That sounds great.   Seems odd that you can not use c++ to compile c++ 
but have to use gcc with a flag.  Must involve a different run time. 
One way to see is to run the gcc and c++ link line with -v added to the 
compile line and see what they are doing different.  Glad you have it 
working.
