[CMake] MESSAGE FATAL_ERROR question

Hi,

I am just wondering, whether getting somthing like this is intended when using 
MESSAGE(FATAL_ERROR "TEST")

CMake Error: Error in cmake code at
/home/light/svn/portable/CMakeLists.txt:416:
MESSAGE TEST
Current CMake 
stack: /home/light/svn/portable/CMakeLists.txt;/usr/share/cmake/Modules/CMakeCInformation.cmake

If yes, is there another option to gracefully exit cmake configuration? Above 
rather looks awkward to me and probabably confuses the user.
