Although now that I think about it, I think the approach may be wrong.   
I am guessing that
we could use a cmake input file to describe the commands needed to use 
the particular version
control system instead of hard coding them in C++.   But since we are 
basically a CVS/SVN shop,
I can't see the work being done any time soon.
