Ok, so I have a response from James Rowe.
Basically he said this:
1. the decision to move build systems has been moved to the end of the year.
2. he would like better cross compile support. He says PMK
has very good support and we should look at it for support. Does anyone
know anything about PMK and how it supports cross-compiling?
3. He was using cmake 2.0.6 because it was the standard install for cmake on
ubuntu, also in gentoo the stable version is 2.0.6 and in dapper 2.2.3 is
the current version. So, he says he can not remove the problems because
2.4.2 is not installed on enough systems.
So, I think this is a good job for cmake-promote. We need people to help linux
distributions to update to the most stable version of cmake to 2.4.X. Then we
need to make sure they update when there is a change. I would like some help here.
Apparently there are folks building cmake for various linux distributions. Can
people on this list help collect up all of those emails? Alex, should I send
an email to kde-buildystem and ask for help in this area? I think what we need
is a cmake distribution maintainers mailing list. I could use the list to notify
the maintainers of releases as I am working on them. Any other ideas on this?
I know the following maintainers:
- debian - Maitland Bottoms
- cygwin - me
I do not know:
gentoo
ubuntu
mandrake
red-hat
fedora
others?
Are there more? If you know of a maintainer and a system please send me an email?
I think getting cmake 2.4.X as a standard install on all Linux systems is a goal we
can accomplish without too much effort, and I think it will have a big impact on
promoting cmake.
Thanks.
-Bill
