<div dir="ltr">Thanks Will and everyone for the fun discussion. I wasn't kidding (or sucking up!) when I said these are some of my favorite topics.<div><br></div><div>Regarding the shaders, you probably saw my recent post to the developer list on CommonGL idea [1]. For current research I'm using the VTK OpenGL backend with a few changes to expose shader-related classes to python just for convenience. I'm very interested to know how this should look in OpenGL2, C++ or python in future VTK.</div><div><br></div><div>Particularly I want to be able to bind variables to uniforms, and map data arrays to shader vertex attributes. These are all nicely done in the OpenGL but I don't see any support for them in OpenGL2. I understood from Berk yesterday that I'm supposed to write my own mapper subclass to support those things?</div><div><br></div><div>Also I want to pass vtkImageData as 3D textures, which seem to only be supported in the GPU ray caster in current VTK, but would be very handy as a general feature. Does anyone have plans for that? Perhaps extending vtkTexture to 3D?<br></div><div><br></div><div>Happy to have a follow on call if there's interest in these things. Otherwise I can stumble along on my own ; )</div><div><br></div><div>-Steve</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div>[1] <a href="http://public.kitware.com/pipermail/vtk-developers/2015-June/032147.html">http://public.kitware.com/pipermail/vtk-developers/2015-June/032147.html</a></div></div><div class="gmail_extra"><br><div class="gmail_quote">On Thu, Jul 9, 2015 at 7:32 PM, Will Schroeder <span dir="ltr"><<a href="mailto:will.schroeder@kitware.com" target="_blank">will.schroeder@kitware.com</a>></span> wrote:<br><blockquote class="gmail_quote" style="margin:0 0 0 .8ex;border-left:1px #ccc solid;padding-left:1ex"><div dir="ltr">Thanks to all who could participate today. I'd like to follow up with a couple of you separately:<div><br></div><div>- Ken and Jim the large scale computing perspective is extremely helpful. I think it keeps us on the straight and narrow. Ken I'd appreciate it if you could occasionally update the ARB and eventually the VTK developers with VTK-m progress.</div><div><br></div><div>- Bill please as you make progress on the remote modules ask for help and we'll do what we can. I'm sure there is some CMake magic that may need some special spells.</div><div><br></div><div>- Steve: thanks for reminding us of the importance of going beyond the VTK graphics model to support shaders, etc. We've talked about this before and set it aside as the OpenGL2 work was being done. I think we are ready to face the challenge of building some programmable/extensible classes in VTK. Depending on how things go we may need to continue the conversation.</div><div><br></div><div>- David G.: you briefly mentioned the need to address certain VTK interaction issues for medical computing. We didn't have time to fully explore this topic, can I call you in the next week or two to talk about your concerns?</div><div><br></div><div>Please, if anything relative to the 6.3 release comes up, loop in Dave DeMarle as soon as possible.</div><div><br></div><div>Thanks again,<br>W<span class="HOEnZb"><font color="#888888"><br clear="all"><div><br></div>-- <br><div>William J.
